Mazur Appeal

The Judgment of Mazur & Anor v Charles Russell Speechlys LLP [2025] EWHC 2341 (KB) (16 September 2025) has caused significant concern and confusion for solicitors, law firms and legal businesses as to who is authorised to carry out conduct of litigation.

An Appeal lodged by CILEX has been listed for the following sessions:

📅  2pm, Monday, 23 February 2026;

📅  Wednesday, 25 February 2026; and

📅 Thursday, 26 February 2026.

Solicitors Regulation Authority – Guidance

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has commented:

“We recognise there has been concern and confusion amongst solicitors following the judgement in Mazur v Charles Russell Speechlys. The Legal Services Act 2007 is clear that only authorised persons (or those who are exempt) are entitled to carry out reserved legal activities, one of which is conducting litigation. Since the judgment, we have published further information to support the profession. This includes a summary of the steps which you can take to ensure that only authorised persons conduct litigation and appropriate support arrangements exist in relation to those who assist an authorised person with this.”

Many shall watch and wait with great interest as the Appeal is heard and when a Judgment shall eventually be handed down.

UPDATE: 20 FEBRUARY 2026

The Appeal will no longer be live-streamed on the Judiciary’s YouTube channel.

The Court made an Order on its own motion on 20 February 2026 that anyone (not a party) seeking to watch/listen should:
