SUMMARY:Diversity & the Judiciary - Inspiring the next generation of Judges
DESCRIPTION:The Society of Asian Lawyers has collaborated with the Association of Asian Women Lawyers (AAWL) and Hindu Lawyers Association (HLA) to bring you this unique event in Manchester. \nThe judiciary has long been criticised for not being diverse enough and for not reflecting the communities it serves. Only 7% of judges in England and Wales come from a BAME background. AAWL\, HLA and SAL believe that this is too low and needs to change. \nThis event is designed to celebrate the successes of BAME judges but more importantly to inspire and encourage the next generation of BAME judges to apply for judicial posts. Together\, we can address the issues facing BAME applicants and try to make a difference. \nYou will hear from an esteemed panel of 3 judges who will share their experiences and give tips: \n\nDJ Matharu – Specialist Chancery District Judge\nAbid Mahmood – Record and Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal\nHHJ Dhir QC – Circuit Judge\, Old Bailey\n\nFollowing the presentations\, there will be an opportunity to network.\nThis event is simply not to be missed!
