Help us raise funds for Barnardo’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Packs

During these unprecedented times, staying well and looking after our loved ones has become even more important.  Coronavirus is pushing vulnerable children and families to the edge, placing them under unimaginable emotional and financial pressures, with BAME families being disproportionately affected by the virus.

SAL’s 2020 sponsored charity, Barnardo’s (https://www.barnardos.org.uk/) is needed now more than ever.  Barnardo’s, like many other charities, has lost more than a third of its monthly income and a number of their services have had to close or adapt, including closing all 706 of its shops.

The crisis is having a huge impact on young people with existing mental health conditions; 88% of children surveyed by YoungMinds say it has worsened their mental health.  We are rapidly moving from a mental health crisis to a catastrophe.

Many children and young people who rely on the safety net of school are now home and isolated from support. Young people living alone after leaving care do not have the support networks they need to see them through and for children and young people living in abusive households, lockdown is tragic.

Barnardo’s is creating Mental Health and Wellbeing Packs to support over 4,000 of the most vulnerable children through this unprecedented crisis.  Packs are age sensitive and could include (but not limited to):

• Arts and crafts activities
• Mindfulness activities
• Sensory items
• ‘Addressing anxiety’ activities
• For parents to use: A Therapeutic Treasure Box for Working with Children and Adolescents with Developmental Trauma
• A Therapeutic Treasure Deck of Sentence Completion and Feelings Cards
• Meditation strategies
• Journals
• Board games
• Mobile credit

£40 could pay for a Mental Health & Wellbeing Pack for a young person.

We want to do everything possible at SAL to raise as many Mental Health & Wellbeing Packs as we can.
