Diversity & the Judiciary, Manchester – 15.11.18

Society of Asian Lawyers has collaborated with Association of Asian Women Lawyers (AAWL) and the Hindu Lawyers Association (HLA) to bring you this unique event in Manchester.

The judiciary has long been criticised for not being diverse enough and for not reflecting the communities it serves. Only 7% of judges in England and Wales come from a BAME background. AAWL, HLA and SAL believe that this is too low and needs to change.

This event is designed to celebrate the successes of BAME judges but more importantly to inspire and encourage the next generation of BAME judges to apply for judicial posts. Together, we can address the issues facing BAME applicants and try to make a difference.

You will hear from an esteemed panel of 3 judges who will share their experiences and give tips:

  • DJ Matharu – Specialist Chancery District Judge
  • Abid Mahmood – Record and Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal
  • HHJ Dhir QC – Circuit Judge, Old Bailey

Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity to network.

This event is simply not to be missed! It’s free and open to all lawyers interested in a judicial career.

Places are limited, so please book your place here.
